The history of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies (ICSIT) dates back to the founding of the Department of Computer Engineering and Technological Processes Modeling in 1986 at the Faculty of Technology of Ukrainian State Forestry University (UNFU). In 2014, as a result of the reorganization of the University, the department was named the Department of Information Technologies (IT) and became part of the Institute of Woodworking and Computer Technologies and Design.
The founder of the department and the first head was Professor, Doctor Plakhtyna O.H. Subsequently, the leadership was taken over by well-known scientists, such as associate professor, candidate of physical and mathematical sciences E.S. Dorozhovsky and professor, doctor of technical sciences Yaroslav SOKOLOVSKY. In 2020, the IT department was headed by an associate professor, Ph.D. Ihor KROSNYI.
The department was actively developing, expanding the range of areas of specialist training. In 2004, the training of bachelors in the specialty "Information Technologies of Design" began, and in 2006, the first recruitment of students was carried out on the basis of the junior specialist education level. Since 2008, the first graduation of bachelors took place and the training of specialists and masters in the specialty "Information Technologies of Design" began, which was followed by the specialty 122 "Computer Science".
Since 2017, the IT department has started training students in new specialties: 126 “Information Systems and Technologies” and 121 “Software Engineering” (according to the changed classification). The educational and methodological work of the department is aimed at providing students with fundamental training in information technologies, computer and information systems.
In 2022, the Department of Information Systems and Computer Modeling (ISCM), headed by associated professor Oleksandr STOROZHUK, separated from the IT Department, and in 2023 - the Department of Software Engineering under the leadership of Associated professor Svitlana YATSYSHYN. After the establishment of the Institute of Computer Science and Information Technologies, the Department of IT was renamed to the Department of Computer Sciences, headed by associated professor Iryna BORETSKA.
Since 2023, the Department of Mathematics and Physics (MPh), headed by Prof. Dr. Natalia PROTSAKH since July 2019. The MPh department has about 80 years of history and accumulated experience of the united Department of Mathematics and the Department of Physics of UNFU.
Scientific research work is carried out in the following main directions at the Department of the Ministry of Education:
🔹 boundary value problems for nonlinear evolutionary equations;
🔹 mathematical modeling of the contact interaction of friction pairs;
🔹 tense state in elastic bodies with foreign inclusions;
🔹 determination of strength and durability of elastic and elastic-plastic bodies subjected to static and cyclic loading;
🔹 study of color centers in divalent metal halide crystals.
The department is also characterized by the active participation of students in research work and Olympiads. All-Ukrainian and university scientific and technical conferences, conferences of young scientists and scientific as well as methodical seminars are held each year. The department actively uses modern computer technology, has specialized educational laboratories and provides e-learning through the Moodle system. In addition, in 2014, a specialized unit related to Autodesk was created.
The Institute of Computer Sciences and Information Technologies, which was established, continues to develop the traditions of the departments and cooperates with Ukrainian, EU universities and IT companies, striving to remain at the leading level in the field of education and science.
Institute ICSIT systematically organizes meetings with representatives of IT companies ("SoftServe", "Global Logic", "EPAM Systems", "PR Solutions", "Intellias", "Noltic", "Ibit Progress", etc.), with students and teachers, where issues of cooperation, improvement of educational programs and preparation of joint events are discussed.
